Veteran NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) driver Jason White looked well on his way to his first career top-10 finish in Friday’s Chevy Silverado 250 from Daytona International Speedway. Unfortunately, after leading laps and running in the top-five, White’s No. 08 GunBroker.com Dodge Ram experienced a mechanical failure sending him to the garage for several laps.
A broken drive shaft on White’s SS-Racing-Green Light Racing automobile would force the Virginia native to withdraw from the competition for 27 laps before returning to the track collecting a 22nd place finish. White completed 73 of the 100 circuits.
It was a solid weekend for White and Company leading up to the start of the event. On Thursday, White produced a very strong fourth place practice effort before clocking the 27th fastest lap after turning a time of 52.294 seconds at 172.104 MPH during Bud pole qualifying on Thursday night. White’s effort awarded him his second career NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start at the 2.5-mile superspeedway.
White made his 30th career NCTS start on Friday night and his first under the SS-Racing-Green Light Racing banner carrying sponsorship from GunBroker.com.
White’s teammate Shane Sieg in the No. 07 ASI Limited Chevrolet Silverado finished 23rd.

WHITE: (WHAT HAPPENED?) “It’s a shame. We were running really well and then it changed just like that. I knew what it was exactly when it happened. The guys on the SS-Racing-Green Light Racing team did a fantastic job fixing the drive shaft and we were able to return to the track and finish the race. I guess it could have been a lot worse.”
WHITE: (ON RACING CONDITIONS) “It was action-packed, that’s for sure. The trucks were really bouncing around out there. There has to be some give-and-take at Daytona. With the rules changes from last year, it’s no surprise that the trucks are a little looser. It’s great for the fans, just makes us drivers have to get up on the wheel a little harder.”
WHITE: (YOU LED SOME LAPS IN THE CHEVY SILVERADO 250) “That felt real good. We had a strong truck all weekend. We used some strategy to lead some laps. You just never know what an extra five points can do for you at the end of the season. The team did a good job all the way around; I just wish our finish would have been better.”
WHITE: (YOU WERE PRETTY CLOSE TO THE BIG ONE) “A little too close for comfort. I’m not really sure what happened, but the incident destroyed a lot of great trucks. Last year, I unfortunately got involved in the big one. This year we got lucky. I saw a hole and went for it. Not to mention great help above from my spotter.”
WHITE: (ON THE TEAM’S OVERALL PERFORMANCE AT DAYTONA) “Like I said, we’re happy but yet we’re disappointed too. We had a really good truck, probably one of the best I’ve ever driven in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. A lot of teams had problems on Friday night, we were one of them. However, we were able to recover from it. Daytona is Daytona. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. We lost a little bit, but we still finished the race and attracted some points. That’s the big picture looking ahead at the full season.”
WHITE: (ON CALIFORNIA NEXT WEEKEND) “We’re heading to California Speedway next weekend planning to show that our Daytona performance was no fluke. I’ve never been to California Speedway in a truck, but I know it’s very similar to a track like Michigan International Speedway and I’ve been there in a truck. I have a great team and awesome sponsor behind me, so we’re going into the second race of the season with high hopes that we can deliver a strong performance.”
WHITE: (ON THE 2008 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES SEASON) “I have a feeling that this is going to be a good year. This team wants to win and run up front. I have no reservation that we can get the job done on a weekly basis. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series has the best racing in NASCAR right now in my mind and I’m just proud to be apart of it.”
Round two for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series takes center stage at California Speedway for the San Bernardino County 200 on Saturday, February 23 with the green flag scheduled to fly shortly after 3:00pm Eastern Time.
