WILLIAMSTON, South Carolina (August 8, 2013) - - With his 19th birthday less than two weeks away, CARS X-1R Pro Cup Series driver Gus Dean heads to Anderson (S.C.) Motor Speedway this weekend hoping that the best early birthday present of all, will be a victory in Saturday night’s Back To School 250.

Seventeen starts overall in the tough and competitive Pro Cup Series division has seen the Bluffton, South Carolina-native impressive with nine top-fives and 15 top-10s overall, but the sweet taste of emerging in victory lane has eluded his Dean Racing team. So far.

The teenager has one prior start at the extremely tight 3/8-mile race track, occurring in his series debut last year. The Palmetto State 250 weekend started off well, with Dean and crew chief and veteran racer A.J. Frank finding a fast setup with their No. 56 Chevrolet Impala. In fact, he qualified on the outside pole for the 250-lap event and contended for the win, before transmission problems rattled their effort, which resulted in an 11th place finish after 77 laps.

More than a year later though, the former Allison Legacy Series star is energized to return to the track and once again challenge for the top-spot.

“I feel very confident about this weekend,” said Dean. “Anderson is where I started my Pro Cup Series career and we sat on the outside pole. Even though, we didn’t earn the finish that we wanted, it still has become one of my favorite tracks on the schedule. I also have run a few late model races there too, so I’m very familiar with the layout of the track.”

He added, “My crew chief A.J. (Frank) and the rest of the Dean Racing crew have been working very hard to get our No. 56 Chevrolet ready this past week to get it where we feel it needs to be for this weekend’s race. As for the race, I think tire conservation is going to be pivotal to success. It’s a very old worn out short track, but extremely tight too.

I think whoever keeps their nose clean and has the coolest tires are likely to be a deciding factor in the winner of the Back To School 250.”

For the second consecutive race, Dean Racing is proud to have KOMA Unwind Liquid Relaxation drink as the primary sponsor of their entry in the eighth race of the year. The vastly growing relaxation drink sported their colors in the most recent CARS X-1R Pro Cup Series race at Montgomery (Ala.) Motor Speedway two weeks ago. After starting 10th, Dean hustled to a hard-fought seventh place run.

In addition to KOMA Unwind Liquid Relaxation drink, the team is pleased to have Jet’s Pizza on-board as a major associate sponsor in the first of two events Anderson (S.C.) Motor Speedway this year.

Jet’s Pizza has rapidly risen through the ranks to become the twelfth largest pizza chain in the nation, with over 300 locations and plans for rapid future growth. One of those locations sits just five miles of the track, making the perfect treat for teams and race fans alike.

“I’m so thrilled to have the opportunity to represent Jet’s Pizza this weekend at Anderson,” sounded the driver of the No. 56 KOMA Unwind / Jet’s Pizza Chevrolet Impala. “There’s no reason on Saturday night after a good finish, we can enjoy some hot pizza and then relax from our busy day with a cold KOMA Unwind. It’s the perfect combo match for us this weekend. Everyone’s been great to work with and that just gets us amped up even more for the race!”

Currently, with just two races remaining in regular-season exhibition, Dean sits fifth in the championship standings, just one point behind Brady Boswell for fourth and 143 points behind leader Clay Rogers. Thus far, Dean and Co. have registered three top-fives including a career-best second at Kingsport and seven top-10s runs.

“It’s been a good season so far,” the former Pro All Star Series (PASS) competitor documented. “We’ve shown we can be fast, we just need to have everything go perfect, so we can seal the deal with a victory. We’re getting closer. It’s not a matter of if, but when. Hopefully, Saturday night at Anderson Motor Speedway!”
