SBR SAYS HELLO AGAIN TO HELIO

July 26, 2011

Three times Indy 500 Champion Helio Castroneves will return to the Armor All Gold Coast 600 alongside Lucky 7 Racing driver Tim Slade this October – and can’t wait to get back behind the wheel of an Australian V8 Supercar.

"You never have to ask me twice about racing on the Gold Coast," said Castroneves.

"We loved the placed in open-wheel cars and to race a V8 Supercar with Tim Slade and Lucky 7 Racing team last year was a great experience,” he added.

Fresh from his stellar second placing at Edmonton last weekend, Castoneves said he was looking forward to mixing it up with his fellow internationals on the streets of Surfers.

"It should be a great weekend with an international driver in every car … with many drivers heading back for a second year and with a bit more V8 Supercar experience.

"Everyone is always asking me about V8 Supercars since I raced on the Gold Coast last year and the announcement of a V8 event in Texas in 2013 has also sparked interest.

"I have to thank Roger and everyone at Team Penske for giving me the chance to come back down to Surfers Paradise. Hopefully we can get a few more Indycar wins under our belt before I get down there in October," Castroneves said.

Regular #47 Lucky 7 Racing pilot Tim Slade said he was rapt to have Helio back as his team mate for the Gold Coast 600.

“Driving aside, he is a really great guy with a huge personality and he really gelled well with the entire team,” Slade said.

“He got up to speed quite quickly last year and will be in a lot better position this year, having had previous experience of driving the car and the circuit, which is a big bonus.

“The #47 Lucky 7 Racing Falcon has been really quick lately so I think Helio is in for a real surprise when he gets back into the car this year,” Slade added.

The Armor All Gold Coast 600 kicks off on the streets of Surfers Paradise on October 21.
