SBR’S GRID SET FOR PHILLIP ISLAND ENDURO

Stone Brothers Racing
September 11, 2010

The grid is set for tomorrow’s 500km race after today’s prequalifying races were run on the Phillip Island Circuit. The unique qualifying format saw each driver complete a qualifying session and a race session each. There were 50 points rewarded to the winner of each race with the combined points determining the grid position for the first enduro of the season, the L&H 500.

After another two practice sessions this morning the field were split into two with teams nominating Driver A and Driver B for each pairing. In the Driver A race van Gisbergen, Perkins and Brabham gridded up for 14 laps while Davison, McIntyre and Slade ran in the later Driver B race.

The SP Tools Racing Falcon will lead the way for SBR’s cars tomorrow starting from 6th on the grid for the 113lap race. The Wilson Security Racing duo of Slade and Perkins will start from 15th while Davison and Brabham will start from the 10th row on the grid in 19th.

Shane van Gisbergen – Driver, SP Tools Racing Car #9

“My race was good, although a got a shocking start and dropped right back the car was good enough pace wise to get second, I don’t know if we could have caught the leader but we certainly would have pushed him but we just ran out of laps.

“For Johnny’s race the car just wasn’t quite right, we went the wrong way for setup and he really suffered and you could see he was struggling with traffic and then during in the pit stop he stalled and lost a bit of time but starting from 6th is great.

“We will keep our heads down tomorrow; it’s a long way and hopefully we will be somewhere near the front at the end.”

John McIntyre – Co-driver, SP Tools Racing Car #9

“I think starting from 6th is great, obviously you want to be on pole but we’ll take the third row, Shane has strong pace. My race today just proved you need to be running with cars with the same car speed, you just get held up otherwise but I'm leaving tonight pretty happy with how the day went.”

Tim Slade – Driver, Wilson Security Racing Car #47

“The top ten for a starting spot tomorrow would have been nice, but we have said all along that the Sunday afternoon is when it counts, so starting from the top half of the field is good enough.

“I think Jack and my pace are pretty similar so that will be pretty important for the race because I think there are alot of guys up the front where one of the drivers has all the pace and the other one is nowhere, so I certainly don’t have any worries over the distance tomorrow.

“My race was all pretty good, I got a good start and made up some spots and then Marcos [Marshall] looked pretty hungry behind me so I made it relatively easy for him to get through as I was just keen to stay out of trouble. I picked up a couple more positions in the end when more cars pitted so to finish 8th was good, I probably didn’t have enough speed to be up any further. Hopefully we can get some direction in tomorrow’s warm up and have a nice clean run tomorrow.”

Jack Perkins – Co-driver, Wilson Security Racing Car #47

“I think we had a good day from a team point a view, but I think the format worked against us a bit because Tim and I qualified 11th and 6th, so to start tomorrow’s race from 15th is probably a bit further back than we would have thought but that’s the way the format is and it favours a top three of four result.

“Tomorrow is payday so we aren’t getting caught up in today’s result, if we can improve a few things it should be a great run for car #47.”

Alex Davison – Driver, IRWIN Racing Car #4

“It was a bit of a struggle today with the car, we have tried a few things but haven’t really made progress. In my race when the cars were bunched up at the restart I managed to carve through those guys a bit, and that was good fun and respectable to finish 10th but we still have work to do to improve the car for tomorrow.”

David Brabham – Co-driver IRWIN Racing Car #4

“Obviously we would like to be staring up a bit higher but Alex did a great job in the last race to move up a few positions to be inside the top twenty, it’s a long race tomorrow so we will have to wait and see.

“For me I was a lot more comfortable in the race so I am very much looking forward to getting out there and getting on with it.”

The V8 Supercars will hit the track tomorrow at 10:30am for a 20 minute warm up before the 500km race at 1:30pm.
