Stone Brothers Racing confirmed last week at their official launch [Friday night] that they will be running three Ford Falcon FG’s in the V8 Supercars Championship Series as well as contesting in the Fujitsu Development V8 Supercars Series this season.
At Fridays 2010 SBR Cocktail Launch Tim Slade pealed back the cover of the #47 car in front of VIP sponsors and supporters, to reveal the new-look Wilson Security Racing livery that he will race this year after making the switch from Holden to Ford.
“This year will be my second fulltime season in V8 Supercars and I am thrilled to be joining the Stone Brothers Racing Team. I have been given a great opportunity to work with a team that has such an enviable history”, said Slade.
“It’s great to have Wilson Security and Lucky 7 on board as major partners of the #47 car.”
Ross Stone is excited to have Slade join his fellow drivers, Shane van Gisbergen and Alex Davison at SBR.
“The new #47 entry with Slade and Wilson Security will be run under the James Rosenberg license but will be in every way be an SBR car; we will be pitted alongside each other at race meetings and test, race and work together this season.
“Even though we have only had one test day with Slade he showed plenty of promise and is already fitting in great with the team”, said Stone.
IRWIN Tools and SP Tools will resume their positions with SBR as naming rights sponsors of the #4 and #9 FG Falcons for the 2010 series, with Alex Davison and Shane van Gisbergen gearing up for their second years as teammates.
“I have never been so keen for the season to start as I am now. I had a great break over Christmas in New Zealand but can’t wait to get back to racing again”, said van Gisbergen.
“The SP Tools Racing Falcon looks fantastic! It’s great to have Lucky 7 on board as a new sponsor and Fuchs stepping up their sponsorship with SBR so hopefully I do this new livery justice when we head to the Middle East later this month.”
Alex Davison is also chomping at the bit to get back in the driver’s seat, this season he will work with SBR’s Team Manager David Stuart as his engineer for 2010.
“It’s great to be back at the workshop, it feels like longer than seven weeks since I have been in the car”, said Davison.
“I had a busy break over Christmas; I got married in Melbourne in the New Year and spent time relaxing with my family which was great. I haven’t stopped training and have taken advantage of the QLD heat to be prepared for the first round in Abu Dhabi.
“I'm really looking forward to working with David Stuart this season. He did some great things with Jason Bright in the second half of last year with SBR and we are planning to start the year strong, focusing on our qualifying.”
Stone Brothers Racing will also continue the trend of developing young drivers in V8 Supercars, running 16 year old Scott McLaughlin in the 2010 Fujitsu Development Series in Fujitsu colours.
McLaughlin will make the giant leap from Karts to V8 Supercars this season while also working at the SBR workshop fulltime as a fabricator apprentice.
“We have had great success in the V8 Supercars Development Series in the past, having won the championship with a young Mark Winterbottom back in 2003”, said Stone.
“Jimmy and I are prepared to have people say and print that 16 is too young but we feel that if you’re good enough, you’re old enough. This is a true development program for SBR.
“We are very lucky to have such a young, talented and dynamic group of drivers this season”.
SBR’s V8 Supercars will be on track for the first season test day at QLD Raceway on Tuesday the 9th of this month before the series make the trip to the Middle East for the season opener at the stunning Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, February 18 – 20.
