LANDMARK CROSSING FOR ALEX DAVISON

Stone Brothers Racing
May 18, 2009

Australia’s leading Media Communications Company, Telstra was announced as the official event sponsor of the inaugural Sydney 500 event at a special V8 Supercars launch on Saturday.

The 2 x 250kms race event will be known as the Sydney Telstra 500 and will host the grand finale of this year’s Championship Series at the 2000 Olympic Games site in Homebush.

As part of the media launch Alex Davison in his IRWIN Racing FG accompanied five other V8 Supercars across Sydney’s Harbour Bridge under police escort. The spectacle provided a talking point for Sydney commuters as the cars made their way across the bridge before parking in the city centre at Martin Place.

An Australian icon since its official opening in March 1932, The Sydney Harbour Bridge affectionately known as the ‘Coat hanger’ made for rare photo opportunity as the IRWIN Racing Falcon was captured along the Cahill Expressway.

"To get to drive over the Harbour Bridge was a fantastic opportunity for myself, IRWIN and SBR.

“It was a moment I will never forget. It’s not every day you get to drive a V8 Supercar on a public road, let alone an Australian icon!

“I can’t wait for the Sydney race; so far there has been heaps of support for the event and there is no doubt that it will be a great way to finish the 2009 season.”

The Sydney Telstra 500 will run on the new street circuit from 4 – 6 December. Tickets go on public sale via Ticketek outlets from 9am on Monday.
