ALEX DAVISON - DRIVER DIARY, SBR ROAD TRIP DAY 5

Alex Davison/Stone Brothers Racing
July 8, 2009

We got up early and managed to get in a quick Maccas breakfast before we arrived at Ruralquip to do an appearance on behalf of IRWIN and SP Tools. Ayr was a pretty small town but there was a great turnout and everybody was really excited to see the IRWIN Falcon and of course talk about the upcoming Townville 400 this weekend. The local Mayor even dropped in to say hello and it was great to see that everybody in the towns surrounding Townsville are really enthusiastic about the race.

After the truck was packed we drove 180kms to Charters Towers and visited the Big 4 caravan park where we again had the IRWIN Falcon on display and got to meet some of the local people and sign some posters. This was our last stop over of our road trip and although we were all looking forward to finally arriving at Townsville, it was a little sad that the trip was coming to an end!

Once we arrived in Townsville we dropped our trusty Winnebago Leisure Seeker back to Motoco. It was a tearful farewell to our home for the last 5 days but we were all looking forward to checking into our hotel and getting out to the circuit for a look.

After eating steak for dinner the last few nights we were keen for pasta so we ended up at an Italian restaurant near the hotel for a meal. Chris, Anna, Scotty and myself all sat around laughing about the trip, Shane opted to stay back get room service at the hotel, I think he had enough of us at that point!

Now that we are in Townsville we have three days of appearances and media commitments before Shane and I get in the cars on Friday. It should be an interesting weekend on track being that it is everyone’s first time there. After our strong result in Darwin I am keen to get back into it and hopefully move up a step on the podium!

Thanks to the guys from Autofocus for their support which allowed our road trip to happen as well as Anna and Chris from SBR for organising it. It was great fun and I can’t wait until we do something like this again in 2010.
