ISCARS FINALIZES 2005 SCHEDULE

International Sport Compact Auto Racing Series (ISCARS), which officially formed in February, is gearing up for a limited five event schedule.

ISCARS is a new organization formed by the sport compact stock car teams that fans have seen competing at Daytona, Charlotte, Bristol, and numerous venues throughout the eastern region for many years. Left without a sanctioning organization following the 2004 season, the teams rallied together to create a new identity.

“Since our inception only a couple of months ago, the necessary pieces have methodically been laid brick by brick to give the series a solid foundation. We promised the teams a minimum of five events and now they are in place,” says Claypoole, ISCARS President/CEO.

The season will include three races in Virginia and one race each in Tennessee and North Carolina. The new Shenandoah Speedway, located near the Shenandoah Valley National Park, will host the first and also the final race of the season.

Expected to return are many of the drivers that have been the stars of the series. ISCARS has also announced the reintroduction of the four cylinder engine, giving the teams the option to run the four-banger or the V6 power plant.

“Our competition committee is currently reviewing the development plan for advancing technology. We are most interested in trimming costs, while also looking at the addition of current body styles, such as the Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac GTO,” Claypoole says. “Toyota was quick to reaffirm its commitment to the series and we are talking to other manufacturers as well.”
