The leadership of the locally based International Sport Compact Auto Racing Series has decided to run a limited schedule of races this season.

"We plan to run five events this fall, beginning in August," ISCARS president and CEO Randy Claypoole said. "We are very close to announcing that schedule. We'll be in venues where you've seen these cars in the past."

The compact stock car series was a NASCAR product called the Goody's Dash Series through the 2003 season. It became an independent series called IPOWER in 2004.

IPOWER ran short of funds this year and had to cancel its race at Daytona International Speedway. The newly formed ISCARS group will begin to sanction compact stock car events later this season.

"We have unanimous support for the business plan from our investors and team owners," Claypoole said.

Claypoole said he knows of at least 100 compact stock cars ready to race and expects a full slate of races for the 2006 racing season after this year's jump-start.

"Track promoters already have their big event budgets allocated for 2005, but we have had enthusiastic support for events in 2006," he said.

Claypoole said he expects to book 12 to 16 races next year, including a handful of superspeedway dates.

"We've got new investors stepping on board. And you know, I haven't had to sit here and call a bunch of people. They have called me and want to work with us."
